In 1893, it was put into service in Seyfullah Efendi Mansion near Kurşunlu Mosque, under the name of "Degree-i Ula Mekteb-i Mülkiye High School". It was a school for 5 years, three years for junior high school and 2 years for high school. Upon the increase in the number of students, the foundation of the existing school building in the neo-classical style was laid in 1903; first floor completed. It was transformed into "Sultani" in 1915. The construction of the second floor was completed in 1916. From the day it was founded, it competed with the Talas American School, which was established for Armenians and Greeks. The Balkan War and the First World War caused the school's number of students to decrease. In 1921, the school was merged with the Ankara Sultanisi and its 12-year full organization was turned into a boarding sultan.

While the War of Independence was still going on, on July 24, 1921, when the GNAT decided to move the government headquarters to Kayseri, the high school building was made ready for the TGNA meetings. However, upon the victory of the Battle of Sakarya, the decision of the government to move to Kayseri was abandoned. The school did not graduate in 1921 because all of the senior students of the school left their education and went to the front and were martyred in the Battle of Sakarya. The poet Cahit Külebi revealed this heroic story while he was examining the records of the school while he was an inspector. There is a monument in the school garden in memory of the students who were martyred in the war.

Poet Faruk Nafız Bey, who was appointed as a literature teacher at Kayseri High School in 1922 and served for 2 years, wrote the "Kayseri High School Anthem" in memory of the students who were martyred in the war. At school, he became the teacher of Behçet Kemal, who would become a well-known poet in the future.

In 1923, the name of the school was changed from "Sultani" to "High School". On October 14, 1924, Mustafa Kemal Pasha, along with his wife Latife Hanım, visited Kayseri High School during his trip to Kayseri. At the ceremony, which opened with the speech of Behçet Kemal, the student of the school, a performance that moved Mustafa Kemal very much was exhibited. Mustafa Kemal Pasha presented an oil painting to the school as an expression of his satisfaction.

The school was merged with the girls' secondary school in the 1935-1936 school year. An Evening High School was opened in 1959; Evening High School was closed in 1982. In the 1994-1995 academic year, a "Foreign Language Intensive" department was opened. It became "Anatolian High School" in 2005-2006.

As a result of the protocol signed between Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality and Provincial Directorate of National Education, it was opened to the public as the National Struggle Museum as of 02.05.2016.
