Selim Sırrı Pasha, the first Traveling Inspector of General Road Works of the Ottoman Empire, was appointed as the governor of Izmit in 1888. Since he was raised from Public Works, he accelerated the road construction works during his Izmit governorship. The road that continues for 18 hours from Izmit Train Station to Taraklı is his work. During this time, he had plane trees lined up along the railway, a characteristic of Izmit, planted. He spent his last years in the mansion he had built in Izmit Yukarı Pazar and died in 1924.
