There is limited information about Akçakoca in historical documents. Akcakoca Bey was born in 1234. He is the gentleman who conquered Akçakoca, Sapanca and Kandıra regions as well as present Kocaeli during his lifetime.

 

Akçakoca Bey, who is mentioned in the works of early Ottoman history writers, is very limited in what is known about himself and his family. The name “Akça”, which is pure Turkish, bears the traces of the Kayı tradition. This name, which consists of Akça, means "quite, quite white". “Husband” is the root of the verb aged and means “big, old”.

Akcakoca Bey was born in 1234. During his lifetime, he took the Akçakoca-Sapanca-Kandıra regions and added them to the Ottoman Principality and went down in history as the "Conqueror of Kandıra".

At the command of Orhan Gazi; Conquests with well-known commanders such as Akçakoca, Konuralp, Saltuk Alp, Samsa Sergeant, Gazi Rahman, Köse Mihal were very important during the establishment of the Ottoman Empire. Akçakoca Bey, who took part in the conquest of Akçakoca and its surroundings; Ertuğrul Gazi was the comrade and comrade of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi...

He died in Kandıra while he was going on an expedition to Izmit. According to his will, he is buried on the hill where his tent is located, like Ertuğrul Gazi. Later, this region is called KOCAELİ as a sign of respect for its name and memory. The mausoleum is located in the Kandıra District of Babadağ.
