Adana Museum was established in 1924, right after the proclamation of the Republic, and is one of the ten oldest museums in Turkey.

The museum, which was first established by collecting the column capitals and sarcophagi in the police department, was opened to visitors in 1928 in the Madrasa of the now demolished Cafer Pasha Mosque, at the head of Taşköprü, as a result of Halil Kamil Bey's appointment as the director and his successful work.

In 1950, it was moved to Adana Kuruköprü Memorial Museum in Kuruköprü, which was used as an Ethnography Museum for a period.

In time, the museum started to collect the distinguished artifacts from the early ages of Çukurova, found in the excavations of Tarsus/Gözlükule (1934), İçel/Yumuktepe (1936), Yüreğir/Misis (1958) and Ceyhan/Sirkeli-Tatarlı Tumulus, in the museum and the museum building was inadequate. It was moved to its current building on January 5, 1972.

Tarsus Glasses, Mersin Yumuktepe, Misis, Karatepe, Soğuksutepe, etc. in Adana Museum. There are artifacts unearthed in archaeological excavations in the mound and settlement areas, and artifacts collected from Adana and its surroundings.

Prehistoric artifacts, statues, epitaphs, sarcophagi, stele, architectural pieces such as stone artifacts from the Hittite, Assyrian, Phoenician, Phrygian, Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods, pottery made of terracotta, various vessels, cylinder and stamp seals are in the museum. coins and other archaeological finds.
